Renogy REGO 50A DC-DC Battery Charger with MPPT
Dual-Input Charging for Your Leisure Battery
Alternator and solar charging in one compact unit
The Renogy REGO 50A DC-DC Battery Charger with MPPT combines vehicle alternator charging and solar charge control in a single unit. Designed for compatible motorhome, campervan, marine and other mobile power installations, it charges an auxiliary or leisure battery from solar panels, the vehicle’s starter battery and alternator, or both sources together.
With a nominal charging power of 720W, the charger delivers a maximum combined charging current of 50A for a 12V auxiliary battery or 25A for a 24V auxiliary battery. This dual-input design provides a flexible way to maintain your leisure battery while travelling or making use of available sunlight when parked.
Intelligent MPPT Solar Charging
Automatically prioritises available solar energy
The integrated Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controller optimises power conversion from connected solar panels. Intelligent charging logic prioritises solar energy when sufficient power is available, supplements solar charging with alternator power when needed, and switches to alternator-only charging when solar generation is too low.
When the auxiliary battery is fully charged, available solar power can also provide a maintenance charge to the starter battery, subject to the voltage conditions specified in the manual. The charger supports a maximum solar array power of 720W, with a maximum solar input open-circuit voltage of 50V.
Flexible 12V and 24V Battery Compatibility
Boost-and-buck conversion with selectable charging profiles
Built-in boost-and-buck technology allows the charger to increase or reduce voltage between compatible 12V and 24V input and auxiliary battery systems. This provides flexibility when combining different vehicle and leisure battery voltages within the charger’s specified limits.
Supported battery types include deep-cycle sealed lead-acid/AGM, gel, flooded lead-acid and lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4). The onboard battery selection button allows you to choose the appropriate charging profile, while User mode enables supported parameters to be customised through the DC Home app to match your battery manufacturer’s requirements.
Charging stages depend on the selected battery profile. Float charging is not applied to lithium batteries, and equalisation should only be used with batteries that require it. A lithium activation function can help reactivate compatible lithium batteries that have entered protection-related sleep mode. The charger can be used with traditional or smart alternators, subject to suitable vehicle-specific settings and installation.
Bluetooth Monitoring and CAN Communication
Check charging performance and adjust settings
Built-in Bluetooth allows nearby monitoring and configuration through Renogy’s DC Home app. View charging information and adjust supported parameters, including battery settings and the maximum combined charging current.
For 12V auxiliary batteries, charging current can be set to 10A, 20A, 30A, 40A or 50A. For 24V auxiliary batteries, the available settings are 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A or 25A, allowing the charging output to be matched to a compatible battery and installation.
Wired CAN communication supports integration with compatible Renogy and RV-C equipment. A suitable Renogy ONE system can provide additional monitoring options with the required connectivity; Renogy ONE and associated networking accessories are sold separately. Onboard LED indicators show solar charging, alternator charging, auxiliary battery status and the selected battery type.
Compact IP67 Design with Temperature Management
Space-saving construction backed by a 5-year warranty
Measuring 178.2 × 121.5 × 37.5mm and weighing 1.52kg, the charger offers a compact solution for installations where space is limited. Its IP67-rated enclosure protects against dust and temporary water immersion under the rating’s test conditions. Natural cooling supports operation without a cooling fan, and installation must provide the ventilation and clearances required by the manual.
The charger operates between −35°C and +80°C, with full rated output specified up to +55°C. The manual describes thermal load reduction above 65°C and shutdown above 80°C. A supplied 3m battery temperature sensor supports battery temperature monitoring and temperature compensation for compatible lead-acid charging profiles.
Battery voltage and temperature warnings help identify charging problems. The charger is supplied with a 5-year warranty, subject to Renogy’s warranty terms.
